PETER/LACKE is a family-owned company now managed by David N. Peter in the 5th generation.

Starting as a regional coating supplier for the furniture industry, PETER/LACKE is now a global supplier for the AUTOMOTIVE, AVIATION, LIFESTYLE and GLASS industries.

Almost half of our workforce is involved in research and development. This division is divided into basic research and customer-specific developments. A powerful combination that scores points with customers all over the world!

1906 - 1922

ernst peter

Master painter Ernst Peter (1853-1929) ran a painting business in Herford. With the arrival of his son Wilhelm Peter (master craftsman's certificate dated 08.03.1906), Ernst expanded the business to include a furniture coating shop and founded Ernst Peter & Sohn (oldest extract from the commercial register dated 14.11.1922). During the First World War, Ernst Peter withdrew from the business and left his son, Wilhelm Peter, in charge of the company.

1922 - 1948

As sole managing director, Wilhelm Peter further developed the company into a production operation with wholesale trade. In 1923, the company was expanded and a coating, oil paint and putty factory was built. During the Second World War, production was maintained with a small workforce and despite bomb damage. The local industry and also the painting trade were served.

1946 - 1977

ernst heinrich peter

In 1946, the chemical technician Ernst-Heinrich (Henner) Peter, son of Wilhelm Peter, joined the management. Wilhelm Peter died two years later. After his death, the company traded as Ernst Peter & Sohn KG from January 1, 1949. In addition to Henner Peter, the general partners were Joachim Siller, his brother-in-law, who had worked in the management since 1937.

1978 - 2015

Dipl. Kaufmann Andreas Peter, also a state-certified technician for paints, coatings and plastics, acquired the shares from Joachim Siller in 1977, joined the management in 1978 and became a personally liable partner and managing director in equal shares with his father E.H. Peter. Andreas Peter has succeeded in developing PETER/LACKE from a supplier to the regional furniture industry to a global automotive supplier.

Today

david n. peter

After his studies at the RWTH Aachen (industrial engineering) and the University of Paderborn (coating chemistry), David N. Peter started in 2008, in the middle of the sub-prime crisis, in the management of PETER/LACKE GmbH. In 2012, David Peter interrupted his assignment in the management for 2 years and took over the position of personal assistant to Dr. Andreas Hettich (Hettich Holding) in order to gain further experience. Since the end of 2015, he has been the sole owner of PETER/LACKE GmbH. In December 2015, Andreas Peter passed the baton to David N. Peter at the MARTa Museum, bringing the 5th generation Peter to the helm. First, he developed the USA business by establishing a subsidiary in Detroit and acquired a coating factory in California.
